No. 10 : Frightened Rabbit - The Winter of Mixed Drinks
Back in March of this year in a short Introducing… piece we wrote this about Frightened Rabbit’s The Winter of Mixed Drinks:
‘The Selkirk quintet specialise in putting the stomach-churning honesty of man’s darkest thoughts alongside grand, uplifting orchestration. A genuinely fantastic album…’
No prizes then for guessing we were fans. Well, nine months down the road not much has changed. From the galloping opening rush of Things to plaintive closer Yes, I Would Frightened Rabbit channel Coldplay, Broken Records and Radiohead yet turn in a record of both impressive originality and undeniable beauty.
If not the album that pushed them wholly into the mainstream, then it’s certainly the one that proves they are more than capable. Where they go from here will be very interesting.
