The Strokes need a big record. Not only due to the length of their absence, but also to function as a reminder as to why we need them. This, taken from their upcoming album Angels, is big.

When news broke that Julian Casablancas had been recording his vocals in isolation from the rest of the group, and with guitarist Nick Valensi spouting that “…maybe everyone needed money or something. We gotta pay our mortgage so we may as well get this going again,” you certainly feared the worst.

But, it’s brilliant. And comes with two golden choruses and a wonderfully OTT guitar solo as standard.  Their best single since Hard To Explain?
