While journalists and often bands themselves worry themselves sick with the so-called drought of decent gutair music, Fractures, a four-piece from South London, rolled up their sleeves, got their jeans dirty and knocked out one of the best debut singles we’ve heard all year in ‘Ride’.
A dark, paranoid verse gives way to a soaring, rip-roaring chorus – and when we say chorus, we mean a proper chorus, the type that bands used to write – all drenched in scuzzy guitars and Freddie Murray’s not-even-trying-but-doesn’t-miss-a-note vocal.
Having been part of HMV’s ‘Next Big Things’ shows earlier this year, hopes are pretty high for this lot. No word on a record yet, but give them time.
