The names alone surrounding Reading four-piece Tripwires are pretty impressive. Their debut album, Spacehopper, will be released via Frenchkiss Records, home to Bloc Party and Local Natives to name but a few. It was produced by Nicholas Verhnes, who has previously twiddled the knobs (stop it right now) for Animal Collective and Deerhunter.
You can see why too. Because they are RAD. New single, ‘Shimmer’, has a sliver of Peace about it, mixed with just a punch of early Muse, and comes out of the blocks like a freight train, whipping itself up into a cyclone of guitars and echoey, reverbed vocals.
It pauses for breath briefly in the song’s centre before coming back off the ropes for another supersized final round chorus, with Rhys Edwards’ voice booming over a grand wall of noise.
Spacehopper is out on 17th June, and ‘Shimmer’ is out tomorrow, on 10th June.
