Here in the UK at least, the summer of 2013 will be remembered for two HUGE pop songs. Both have soundtracked anything from drunken nights out to BBQs up and down the land. Both have landed their authors their first UK number 1. Both shot to over a million sales. We are of course talking about Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ and Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’.
While there have been many high profile covers of the former (including this, by Daughter), the latter has managed to get off relatively lightly. Until now.
Our favourite Brooklyn intelli-poppers Vampire Weekend popped into the BBC Radio 1 live lounge to deliver a hugely fun version of Thicke’s summer smash, complete with lead singer Ezra Koenig dropping a verse or two of rap and his usual, gorgeous falsetto.
