Having been a near permanent fixture on Mumford & Sons’ recent jaunts around the world – including their trip across the US by railway, documented in 2012’s ‘Big Easy Express’ film – Los Angeles 12-piece Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros release their third, self-titled on the 26th August. In a unique collaboration with a number blogs (of which we are very pleased to be a part) the group are premiering a new track each day in the run up to the record’s release.
The first non-Mumford album to be released on Mumford and Sons’ Gentlemen of the Road label, it is a hugely impressive piece of work. Full of woozy, ragged country-pop, it is an album of twists, turns and triumphs.
All of which can be heard in a personal highlight of ours, ‘Country Calling’, which we are delighted to premiere. In parts an upbeat, footstomping nugget of melody and at times a psych-lite swoon of technicolour bliss, the songs doesn’t allows itself to settle, neatly capturing the restless nature of the entire record.
Listen to ‘Country Calling’ below. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is out on 26th August on Gentlemen of the Road Records.
